A massive reminder of the Habsburg's 700-year reign, the massive Hofburg Palace was the winter residence of the imperial family. Construction on parts of the complex began as early as 1275, but the Hofburg Palace did not become the official seat of the emperor until the mid-16th century. Additions and renovations continued on the Hofburg until the end of the Habsburg reign in 1918.
Today the complex is home to the Lipizzaner Stallions, the Vienna Boys' Choir and the official residence of the president of Austria.
